Michigan Social Security Disability Appeals Attorneys
Most people can not imagine suffering an injury that would prevent them from working. However, according to the Social Security Administration (SSA) a 20-year-old worker has a 3-in-10 chance of becoming disabled before reaching retirement age. At the Law Offices of William C. Babut, P.C., our attorneys are passionate about helping injured workers obtain the Social Security Disability Insurance benefits they have earned.

Who qualifies for Social Security Disability?
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a program administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to provide benefits to working American who are injured and unable to work. While work-length requirements depend on age at the time of disability, people typically need forty work credits, twenty of which need to be earned in the ten years prior to being injured - or about five years of recent work experience. People who don’t qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) often qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Visit our Social Security Disability Web site
In order to qualify as "disabled" for the purpose of gaining Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits you must:
- have worked in jobs covered by Social Security
- have a medical condition that meets Social Security's definition of disability
- have a disability expected to last for at least one year or to result in death
The Social Security administration uses a five step process to determine if a person is disabled. Things they look at are:
- Is the person currently employed?
- How severe is the injury?
- Does the injury meet or equal a listing level impairment?
- Can the person do the same work they were doing before being injured?
- Can the person do any other type of work?
Let us help
Because of the strict requirements and guidelines the Social Security administration has in place, a majority of initial Social Security Disability claims are denied. Having an experienced attorney can be of crucial importance in the success of an appeal. With ten years experience representing injured people, we understand how to present evidence of disabilities and explain why they prevent employment.
